Law of Property
This course concentrates on one of the fundamental principles of civil law-namely, the freedom of exercise of the right of ownership, and the limits placed thereon. Major topics to be covered will include an examination of the value of the right of ownership, the right of actual possession, the transfer of the right of ownership, and security rights.
Law of Corporations
This course deals with legal issues concerning corporations. The topic of corporate law itself is providing for in Part III of the Commercial Code. The course will begin with the significance and types of corporations in existence, and will cover merger and dissolution orders applicable to all corporations, the organization and activities of merges, joint corporations, stock corporations and limited companies, and will conclude with an examination of foreign corporations and penalties.
Administrative Law 1
This subject will examine the basic principles of administrative law and legislation. It can be broadly divided into an introduction to administrative law, the law of administration as a means of guarantee. The introductory section will examine the administration itself, and basic concepts of administrative law, together with administrative legal relationships. The second section, with respect to the law of administrative procedure, will look at the form of administrative processes in respect of such matters as administrative conduct, administrative legislation, administrative contracts, and actual conduct. The final section on the effectiveness of administration as a means of guarantee will highlight positive legal measures for the effective guarantee of processes of administrative forces and punishment.
Civil procedure 1
The law of civil procedure is concerned with the court procedure which implement by force and by means of state authority the rights and obligations recognized under the substantial law of various fields such as civil law, commercial law, administrative law and intellectual property law. In addition, the law of civil procedure also governs dispute resolution, and thus this course will provide students with an understanding of the procedure for settlement in litigation when the various rights and obligations, legal positions, and legal relationships studied in substantial law classes are challenged. In concrete terms, lectures will first focus on what is known as the three essential elements of litigation, i.e. the court, the relevant parties, and the procedure. Using this as a basis, classes will look at the actual court procedure which gives effect to the legal proceedings from the moment of the institution of the action.
Criminal Procedure
Within the legal system of a nation, the law of criminal procedure governs the legal procedures which give effect to the nation¡¯s right to punish, based on criminals, the institution of prosecution, trial procedure, and the passing and enforcement of sentences. The object of this course is to increase the understanding of students in relation to the rights and obligations of the subject of criminal proceedings, and the constitutional and criminal proceedings, and the constitutional and criminal procedural process for the rightful exercise of the nation¡¯s right to punish.
Labor Law 1
The aim of this course is to work towards the achievement of humane standards of living for workers by bringing about substantial equality between labor and management, and thus it will focus on individual laver-related laws. It will concentrate on the basic structure of labor law, basic rights of laborers, and the specific contents of the Labor Standards Law.
Economic Law
This course seeks to provide an understanding of economic law which organizes, in a reasonable manner, market economies created by free and fair competition among market participants. The central objective of this subject is to examine, from the perspective of economic law, the significance of laws concerning the regulation of monopolies and fair transactions, and the process by which economic law has been formed into a single legal system.
Legislation
This course aims to provide an understanding of the substantial, procedural and technical principles relating to legislation, together with an understanding of the importance and position that legislation occupies within the Korean legal system. In other words, to facilitate an understanding of the normative and legal principles which govern legislation. The major topics covered by this course include the philosophical, constitutional and scientific principles of legislation, legislative procedure, analysis of statute law, and the principles of drafting bills.
Law and Politics
The purpose of this course is to enable students to understand the meaning and value of law-related politics, and to enhance democratic civil awareness by providing basic knowledge regarding various institutional, organizational mechanisms and their interaction, which together from the functional elements of modern politics.
Policy Science
The main object of this course is to seek the optimal method of policy development through an understanding of various political administrative phenomena and policy-making procedures. Accordingly, classes will focus on the general study of policy as a major area of public administration.
Information System
This subject covers analysis of information demands, methodology for processing data, management of data, and basics of SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) and MIS. And, also, this subject deals with decision making via computers and its impact on various members of an organization.
Family Law
This subject will examine the meaning and constitution of the family by focusing on the section of the Civil Code relating to domestic relations. It will introduce basic family relationships and cover such topics as marriage, the father-son relationship, and adoption. It will also examine the system of succession to the head of the family.
Tax Law
While the study of taxation law applies the academic conclusions of various related legal fields, it also deals with topics peculiar to the taxation system. In concrete terms, this course will focus on firstly, fundamental principles regarding the creation-establishment-conclusion and revision-extinction of taxation liability. Secondly. It will concentrate on the individual items of taxation, such as income tax, corporate tax and value-added tax. Thirdly, taxation problems in respect of the international environment. Fourthly, it will summarize the objection procedure appropriate in the case of objections regarding measures of tax administration.
Administrative Law 2
This course consists of a detailed examination of administrative organizations and actions. The law of administrative organization includes such topics as the concept of administrative organization itself, administrative authority, the law of state administrative organization and the law of local governance, as well as the law regulation the conduct of public officials. The law of administrative action covers, in particular, the law of police administration, administrative grants law, the law of social guarantees, the law of public risk, land administration law, environmental law, economic administration law and financial administration law.
Legal Philosophy
Issues examined by legal researchers and institutions essentially revolve around questions of justice, whether it be in a general or specific problem-solving sense. In this context the question of the meaning and standard of justice may be said to be the fundamental topic of legal study. Legal philosophy is the subject which deals with such fundamental issues of law. This course will not only examine the achievements and thoughts of various legal philosophers regarding justice, but will also provide the opportunity for students to think independently and to offer their own opinions on this topic.
Law of Commercial Papers
This course examines the legal and intellectual basis of laws common to securities, focusing particularly on the legal issue of checks and bills. This is because these instruments are not only the typical mode of current business transactions relating to securities, but also important means of credit and payment in economic life in general. The main topics of this course include the basic feature of the major theories of securities, the law of negotiable instruments, and the various legal relationships in respect of acts involving bills and checks.
Topics in Law of Property and Obligations
This course aims at providing a clear explanation of the position and actual function of regulations regarding property and obligations by examining how various systems within civil law are connected with the settlement of disputes. It will also discuss the systematic connection between these elements in terms of specific topics.
Topics in Corporation Law
This subject seeks to enhance the students¡¯ understanding of corporate law by concentrating primary o areas not covered by basic courses in this area. This main topics of this course include the procurement of corporate funds such as corporate finance, corporate accounting, and the merger and acquisition of firms. Issues concerning not only the corporate section of commercial law but also the stock exchange law, standards of corporate accounting, and tax law will also be covered where appropriate.
Topics in Criminal Law
This course will comprehensively examine various topical issues in the practice and theories of criminal law, using as a basis the criminal law theories acquired from previous courses. The object of this course is to provide students with a greater understanding of important topics in criminal law.
Civil Procedure 2
Continuing on from Civil Procedure 1, the major topics of this course will include evidence law, appeal procedures and the termination of procedures. The objective of this course is concerning the enforcement of injunctions and other procedures for temporary seizures/disposals that are necessary to give effect to rights relating to financial and other debts.
Labor Law 2
This course will focus on laws regarding labor as well as management relationships between labor unions and management groups. Specially, it will cover such topics as labor unions, group negotiations, group settlements, unfair labor actions, management of labor disputes, and labor management agreements.
Anglo-American Law
This subject introduces students to Anglo-American law which is, together with Continental law, one of the two major streams of law in the world. It examines the historical origins. Characteristics, and basic concepts of Anglo-American law.
German Law
This course seeks to systematically enhance an Understanding of German law. However, as this task is impossible to accomplish in one semester, the course will extend over two semesters, each of which will cover certain fields of law. At the conclusion of the course, a comparison will be drawn between German and Korean law.
French Law
As the French legal system is one of the two major strands of Continental law, this course aims at a comparative study of Korean and French legal institutions through an understanding of their respective laws. Thus, this course will focus on the introduction of the general principles and theories of French law and contrast this with Korean law. Employing original legal texts where appropriate.
Sociology of Law
This course seeks to increase the ability of students to analyze legal phenomena from a socio-scientific perspective. If the conventional study of law can be said to be an interpretative study, which seeks to discover laws from legal sources, the sociology of law seeks to understand truth by analyzing and systemizing factual legal phenomena from a socio-scientific perspective. Through the examination of legal phenomena and the relationship between its case and effect, students will be able to apply to the knowledge acquired through these studies. This is also connected with such issues as legal policy making, interpretation of laws, and the study of Legislation.
